Hey can you make it pop? Like really pop? Well let me tell you it is definitely an experience. Ling sells and leases cars with a quite interesting business tactic. He uses an unconventional non-modern approach. It is atrociously hard to navigate yet he still gets sales.First of all when you load the sight and all of its images. You cant help it, but need to look around at all the distractions. When you have animation at every corner, it all blends in and causes confusion, if there was one or two instances, it would greatly increase focus to a part of the page.
I did not discover the unconventionally placed menu bar on the left until I scrolled a bit to so what was going on. I wanted to press Ling's face to get back to a home that had cleaner information.. but that did not work and there below it is finally the menu and home button. But this is where the tables turn from me ranting on just how bad the website is to an interview with Vice
What do you think the secret to good web design/UX is?
Oh, that's easy... the "secret" of web design/good UX, is to be human. And truthful and honest, and not force it and stop manipulating people. It really helps if you address your demographic, for example choose emotional music from the correct era... and add a bit of humour. But people know when things are honest, they can feel it.
I think it is important to consider the audience. They are definitely what seems as an alienated demographic. I would not see professionals using this service, but more of a younger audience, with smaller income and even perhaps Asian visitors as this extravagant over ornamentation, and animation/videos style is more present in that typical advertisement market.
Let's talk about credibility. There seems to be an effort to establish credibility with news organization endorsement in this mess of styles. To me this would give me some sense of comfort initially but freak me out, as the UX and UI is not intuitive and sketchy. How about that live webcam of his staff working? Credibility as a real business or creepy?
You have been described by The Guardian as "Britain's biggest individual seller of new cars." How much business do you do?
I move over 1,000 new cars annually. I keep my numbers manageable, but significant. Every car ordered is a physical order from a new car dealer and I have £5 million worth of new cars on order at any one time. All that is done on trust, I don't pay deposits... so I have to keep my business volume sensible. I don't want to rule the world.
I think the ultimate question or amazement per-say is why does is this so successful in that age simplified mobile interaction? Its quite interesting as I began my attack at the design sins, where some are still very quite valid, a simple research beyond the website somewhat altered my perception. would I buy from here? Maybe not.
