14 – Wrap Up

The end is near. Alright here are my thoughts.

Conceptually what this class offers, I do enjoy, as it gives meaning to designers. Why we get payed a certain amount, and how much research and thinking actually goes into a project – research in various ways, ie proto-personas, a user experience on how a person navigates from one place to another, and a journey as a whole specifically our touchpoint journeys on the campus. You would think wayfinding would be a bit more involved with engineers and environmental designers, but this includes us too, and it really is just a branch of us. So I'm really glad we got an insight/exposed to this subject matter.

Here's where the class falls apart in my opinion. We spent the first 2/3rds of the semester learning about web and research, which could have been easily covered in a faster pace and even more so, in the previous web design class we took. Our research learning methods would carry over to here or expand. This class then would specifically cover wayfinding and touchpoint journeys beyond the screen.

Research is good, but not when we are teaching wayfinding to ourselves. We had to learn about standards, and approaches to designing, for height, visibility, materials, mostly on our own, and not through an accredited book/source/teacher, which may cripple our own research on an entirely new subject. My issue with that comes down to the fact that if we learned these things of what seems on our own, what was the purpose other than feedback we got in class. In summary just, shifting the focus on the new material.

Thanks Lauren.
